Our contributor Lars is bringing us yet another store just to the east of Hartford. In fact, it's in East Hartford! This store started out as an A&P store, as we can tell from the beautifully original facade, but was later taken over by Shaw's. When Shaw's left the state in 2011, most of the stores were sold to ShopRite operators. While the Cohens, who also the one over in Manchester, bought this location at the time, they did a full renovation but the Shaw's decor wasn't all that old anyway, so we'll see the bones remain. Here's an idea of how a comparable Shaw's would've looked.
The decor and most of the fixtures are new (this Shaw's decor package came with white cases, not black ones), but the floor and ceiling remain. Great looking store, though!
Deli-bakery decor newly installed, but over the bones of the Shaw's decor. The drop ceiling, orange back wall, and curved sign frame for the bakery are left from Shaw's. When we get up to the Worcester, MA area, we'll see lots of stores with that decor package intact!
This store got rave reviews from our contributor, except for the fact that some products are hard to find because they're in multiple places or a strange place in the store.
More Shaw's flooring seen here.
I believe these freezer cases are left over from Shaw's. The curved dairy sign and track lighting certainly are!
A look across the front-end before we head out. Don't forget to check out Manchester, linked above! And tomorrow we're going to tour another ShopRite, this one on the southern coast of Connecticut.
