Moving on to our two final stores in Middletown! This one is a 51,000 square foot Stop & Shop which opened in a former Grand Union in 2001. (I was actually surprised to find it's that large upon researching it on Google Maps, since it feels quite small in person -- although I didn't go in.) This is one of a handful of Stop & Shop stores in the northern Jersey Shore area, with their farthest-south shore store in Toms River. Make sure to check out our former store across the street here! When I saw this post, i thought "well this store's days are numbered". Wegman's had been planning to build right across the street. I googled for an update and discovered they plans have been cancelled...

Yeah, that's an interesting one to keep an eye on for sure.
DeleteI can't imagine the plans for Wegman's will remain dead forever. There is too much growth in the area for the company to ignore, especially since they fought so hard to get approval for the store in the first place.
