Our final stop in Princeton is by far the largest at nearly 120,000 square feet. This Wegmans is located in the 120+ acre Nassau Park Pavilion, which is also home to TJ Maxx, Michaels, Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, Party City, Raymour & Flanigan, Best Buy, Home Goods, At Home, The Home Depot, and many more. It actually also has a recently-closed Walmart and a recently-closed Sam's Club. There are two enclosed malls nearby, the Quakerbridge Mall just to the south and MarketFair just to the north. The Wegmans competes with a Whole Foods (in a former Pathmark) and a Trader Joe's to the north, and a ShopRite just south. The ShopRite, of course, is a measly 78,000 square feet and that is tomorrow's tour right here on The Market Report!
When did Sam's Club close? I thought Sam's Club closed stores in 2018.
ReplyDeleteNever mind it was in 2018 that Sam's Club closed. The one in Budd Lake also closed during that time and it's now an Amazon Prime. I guess that Princeton, unlike Budd Lake, is still vacant in 2022.
ReplyDeleteBut Ocean State Job Lot is opening in the former Walmart, so at least that makes up for it. Not sure about Sam's Club, though.
ReplyDeleteSince when does Walmart go out of business? Really surprised to hear this one closed.
ReplyDeleteOk, kind of a dumb comment I left above but that news took me by surprise. I now see Walmart closed 154 stores back in 2021 so they do go out of business! Guess it's surprising here since it's such a massive shopping complex drawing in tons of shoppers. Then again, perhaps there were just too many options for Walmart to hit the volume of sales they needed to stay profitable.
Delete154? I never thought so in 2021. I hope this wasn't COVID related!
DeleteI'm wrong! Sorry. They closed 154 stores back in 2016 and it was mostly Walmart Express stores on the list. The Princeton location closed in July 2020.
DeleteR-I-G-H-T! I thought it had to be 2016! Not 2021!
DeleteWegmans Princeton opened in 1999. It was the first location in New Jersey for the chain.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the history!
