Super Foodtown of Caldwell

After an extensive interior remodel, which was most recently documented here, the exterior of the Caldwell Foodtown has completed its remodel, too. The removal of the storefront exposed quite a few of the older storefronts underneath, which have been preserved but sadly covered up with the existing new facade.
And while it's a major improvement over the prior facade, I just wish the sign had individual letters instead of them all on a box. It just looks cheap this way.

But overall the storefront does look excellent, and fits in nicely with the small-town downtown of Caldwell. By the way, this store became Jack's Super IGA in 1984, then Foodtown around 2005, making it IGA for much longer than I thought. Don't forget to see what else we have here, and happy Spring Break!
Jack Shakoor purchased the operating Hy's Foodtown supermarket in December of 1998. The market was closed by Jack and extensively remodeled, reopening as Jack's IGA in April, 1999, joining Foodtown/Allegiance Retail several years later. (D. Shulman)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the history! I had written my history above using an ad for the grand opening of Jack's Super IGA in 1984, but I must have misread that (maybe it was for another location, like Boonton...?). Glad to hear from you!
