Weis Markets

We are here in the tiny town of Pennsburg, PA (not even 4000 people, which by my standards is quite small) for a Weis located in a former Ames department store. The supermarket takes up around 54,000 square feet of this strip mall, with a 35,000 square foot Ace hardware next door. It's possible that the Ames encompassed both of these spaces, or that the Ace was previously a grocery store next to the 54,000 square foot Ames. This store has gotten a very simple version of the latest decor package that we most recently saw in Doylestown.
In a very standard layout for Weis, beer/wine and cafe, prepared foods, and deli line the left side of the grand aisle with produce on the right. Bakery and seafood are at the back of the grand aisle with meat and dairy taking up the rest of the perimeter and frozen on the far right side.
While I don't think this store looks bad, I would say that this decor doesn't work quite as well in the older and less-deluxe locations.
I do still like it here, though, but I'm not convinced it's a major improvement over the previous decor package.
Cheese and bakery felt a little abbreviated compared to other Weis stores, despite the fact that this store is not that small.
I really love the red tile around the meat and seafood area, though. That design is carried through into the meat department...
Although I believe the fixtures are much older, probably from this store's opening. Meat becomes cold cuts and dairy at the far right side of the back wall...
Notice the updated aisle markers and promotional signage across the top of the shelving.
Milk at the back of the last aisles.
I must say that I think this store is not very exciting. Like every Weis I've visited, it's clean, well-stocked, and good for food shopping (I really enjoy shopping at Weis because of their storebrand selection and prices). But it's just very plain.
The last aisle is dairy and frozen.
And in the front corner of the store is the bread department, with the front-end out of frame to the right in the below picture.
That about wraps up our tour of this Weis -- pleasant enough but not all that special. We do have a few things of note here on the front-end. First, I am fairly certain the structure above the checkouts is left over from the red and white 90s decor package -- see here. Second, there's a remnant of the later decor package I linked above in Newton...
...the Thank You sign that remains on the front wall, for some reason. It doesn't particularly match the rest of the store, but I suppose it's not horribly ugly so they just left it.
And that wraps up our nothern Delaware Valley coverage! We are moving on to the next valley tomorrow, with the beginning of the Lehigh Valley!
I said, can you please check out the Acme in Oak Ridge to see about the renovation progress and post it on here?
ReplyDeleteI assume you are the same person who's been asking about the Oak Ridge ACME for over a year. You need to stop. There is no renovation happening at the Oak Ridge store, and I haven't posted updates because every time I've been there there has been absolutely no change. I was most recently there about two months ago to find the A&P decor in my original post fully intact. Believe me, if I do see a renovation going on, I will post updates. But that is not an easy store for me to get to, so I likely will not be able to visit for some time. I always welcome questions, but if you ask me to visit Oak Ridge to see the renovation again, I will start marking the comments as spam.
DeleteNot to mention, I usually don't get to respond to comments more than once a week -- sometimes less often than that. It's incredibly rude to ask the same question that you just asked yesterday when I've barely gotten the chance to see it, much less with all the comments being on unrelated posts. Please do not do that again.
That was two months ago. So maybe you need to get up to date.
DeleteHey anonymous if that even is your real name, if you care so much maybe you should go check it out yourself if you clearly care that much rather than commenting rude comments to a family friendly grocery store blogger.
DeleteMaybe you need to not be demanding. You're getting this for free, you know.
DeleteHey buddy, step off. This guys doin hard work and you’re being a real nuisance asking about a store no one cares about. Why don’t you go make the drive and check for yourself
