Another update, another renovation! It's time to revisit the Coney Island Avenue Ideal Food Basket in Prospect Park South, Brooklyn. We first toured the store a few years back and it was looking good, but it was definitely still a CTown. The store has been a supermarket for many decades, although I can't remember what it was prior to CTown, which converted to the first Ideal Food Basket in 2012.The store just completed a pretty major renovation, and it's looking fantastic. Notice that on the side facing Coney Island Ave, the Supermarkets for Savings signage from CTown has been removed, but there's still a smaller sign of that facing the parking lot on the side.
The signage could be updated (supermarkets for savings has seen better days, and the apple over the i isn't so red any more...) but the store otherwise is looking fantastic.
The first aisle has been removed to expand the produce department, which is spacious, bright, and open. Notice what a difference this renovation makes! The store looks so much larger although it's, of course, the same size (though I wonder if the back wall was pushed into the backroom space, since it feels like the store is deeper).
In the back of the first aisle, which runs parallel to Coney Island Ave, we see the new butcher, seafood, and sushi counter. As far as I could tell, all the fixtures are new, except the grocery shelving. It looks great and seems to be a well-run store.
The alcove in the back with seafood and halal meat has been removed.
We see that the grocery aisles look good, if less exciting than the perimeter. The flooring looks nice but the aisles all felt cluttered, although I was here early in the morning so there was a lot of stocking going on.
The decor is carried through the rest of the store, with more of the neon-style signs in frozen and dairy in the last aisle.
Beer is opposite the dairy department. Again, I believe all of the fixtures here are new, and certainly the decor is.
Deli, hot food, and bakery in the front corner. Hasn't moved, but very updated with beautiful new fixtures and a nice fresh look overall.
And on the front end, there's a few updates, such as replacing most of the registers with self-checkouts (I believe there are two or three full-service registers remaining). And although we can tell the store has been beautifully updated, there's still old supermarket bones here, like the big round air vent on the ceiling.
That's all for this Ideal Food Basket, but don't forget to check out the Highland Park Stop & Shop and Kings in Livingston and Millburn!
