Downtown Williamsport is home to Lycoming College and the Pennsylvania College of Technology, among other things, and where the downtown area meets the river, where the interstate also runs through town, a cluster of stores and hotels is set up in a very suburban style. The supermarket anchor of this complex is a roughly 100,000 square foot Wegmans, built in the 1990s. Although Wegmans seems to prefer large, open strip malls in suburbs, they do have some downtown locations in mid-sized towns like Williamsport or Auburn, NY. There used to be other supermarkets in downtown Williamsport, and we're going to take a look at one of them tomorrow on Grocery Archaeology!
