As Rite Aid continues to struggle nationally, here in New York City many of their stores are becoming supermarkets. Out in Brooklyn, an America's Food Basket opened in a former Rite Aid, most recently. And Shop Fair has been expanding quickly in New York City also, many locations owned by Anibal Rodriguez, who's recently opened stores in Mott Haven (two actually!) and Wakefield, in a former Dollar Tree.I'm not positive whether Rodriguez owns this store, but he does own one nine blocks (half a mile) south at Saint Nicholas and 177th. This one is at Saint Nicholas and 186th. The 177th Street store is preparing to expand into a neighboring storefront as a SuperFresh prepares to open across the street. That's not exactly a surprise, as both Key Food (SuperFresh) and, to a lesser extent, Shop Fair are on the move lately. The Saint Ann's Avenue store in Mott Haven, the newest of the group, is a beautiful store and very well-run. That's all for this store, but there's lots more to see today and tomorrow! Here's what we'll be seeing:
Saturday
- Shop Fair Supermarkets (future) - Hudson Heights, Manhattan, NY (this post)
- LIDL (future) - Bronx Terminal Market, Bronx, NY
- Food Bazaar (future) - Bushwick West, Brooklyn, NY
- SuperFresh (future) - Middlesex, NJ
