ShopRite of Liberty
Owner: SRS
Our final stop in Liberty is the ShopRite. The 56,000 square foot store was constructed by Big V Supermarkets in around the 1980s, then expanded to its present size (you can see the expansion out the right below) in 2015. Here's an article from a local Jewish publication specifically highlighting the expanded kosher selection.Owner: SRS
Opened: 2001 under current ownership, before 1990 previously
Previous Tenants: none
Cooperative: Wakefern Food Corp.
Location: 1955 NY-52, Liberty, NY

The store had a renovation at the same time, and it looks really good overall. We enter to the grand aisle on the left side of the store, with produce on the left side and deli/prepared foods on the right side. Cheese and bakery are at the back of the grand aisle, with meat and seafood on the back wall. A natural foods department is in the first aisle, with dairy on the right side and frozen in the front right corner and the second-to-last aisle. Interestingly, the kosher department shown in that article is now a somewhat empty-feeling sale corner. The kosher department has been downsized into the international aisle. I assume that's a reaction to the influx of kosher supermarkets in the area, meaning that people looking for kosher foods probably aren't going here anymore.
I've always liked this decor package, but I wish the flooring were more exciting. I don't think the floor looks particularly good, but the decor and fixtures definitely do.
Prepared foods and deli are in an island with natural foods and HABA on the other side.
Bakery and cheese are at the back of the grand aisle. These two departments look particularly good, I would say.
Even the former olive bar looks good, now fully re-merchandised with cheese and deli items.
Moving into the main supermarket out of the grand aisle, we first hit the seafood department.
The back wall looks great too, and as I've commented in other stores, I love that this store's decor does not peter out after the grand aisle.
A very attractive natural department in the first aisle with HABA beyond that.
Like many ShopRites, this one has added a very attractive HABA aisle. The shelving appears only partially lit here, and I'm not positive whether that's intentional or not.
The grocery aisles are less exciting, but clean and well-stocked.
It does seem that the whole store was remodeled, not just the perimeter, and I like that too.
As we get into the expansion, we see the dairy department beginning on the back wall.
Frozen foods begin in the grocery aisles and then continue into the front corner.
Although the decor and fixtures look great, I really do want more from the flooring here. This style looks to me much more old-fashioned than the decor does.
Dairy in the last aisle. And I like the decor here too!
In the front, we move into the rest of the frozen department in the front alcove.
Up next on the front wall is the former kosher department, which is now sale items.
And then a look across the front-end, with the grand aisle on the far side...
This store looks very good, and from what I understand, it's doing very well. Then again, SRS closed its Capital Region stores last year, and the Ellenville store is closing soon, citing low sales. Tomorrow, we're headed about 10 miles south to the next ShopRite!
Makes sense that they redid the interior when they expanded, as this looks very much like those now closed Capital Region stores, the last of which opened in 2017 so they were being built before and then after the timeframe this was being redone. Also, all being corporate (subsidiary) owned likely has something to do with sticking to a similar design.
ReplyDeleteYep, exactly. Same time frame and same owner.
