Welcome to Connecticut! We're here in the southwestern corner of the state, just half a mile from the New York border in the Glenville section of Greenwich, to take a very quick look at the Stop & Shop. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go inside because of time constraints when I visited, but I really wish I did. It appears to have had its Grand Union decor until closing day in June 2023. The store is around 20,000 square feet and built around an original 10,000 square foot Grand Union which Stop & Shop acquired in 2001. Here's a look inside from 2012.Apparently there is some interest in the property by other grocers, but they wanted more parking, which the landlord can now add. We'll see who moves in, and how well they do in the space.
The signage on the storefront was updated between 2008 and 2012, but never got the updated traffic light logo. That did, however, make it onto the signage out by the street -- a little bit surprising, since like I said the interior was never updated from its Grand Union decor. There's another (slightly smaller) Stop & Shop still in business at the other end of town on route 1.
That's all for this part of Connecticut, where we've been before to see several stores. Next we're going to skip around 25 miles east to Bridgeport, where we're seeing a store tomorrow!
