DeCicco & Sons
Owner: Chris, John, & Joe DeCiccoWe are going out with a bang with our last Westchester County store! This was DeCicco & Sons' second new-build store, with the first being in Armonk. It's almost identical to this store, except for a few cosmetic differences. We can see the exterior is a bit different, and the decor is slightly different, but the layout and offerings are nearly identical. It's clearly a winning formula, as DeCicco & Sons has grown across the Westchester County area.
It's the only supermarket in the small village of Somers, which previously had a Gristedes across the street. The roughly 22,000 square foot DeCicco & Sons of Somers, in my opinion, ranks right up there with the best of them -- certainly among the most beautiful supermarkets I've been to.
And yes, you saw that right. There's an outdoor seating patio on the second floor under the clock tower. What a sentence to be writing about a supermarket! Let's head in...
Wow! We can tell there's a different decor package from Armonk, with more brick and wood in this store for a more rustic look, but it's just as beautiful.
As we can see clearly, the neutral brown coloring across the store's fixtures and decor brings out the exciting colors of the fresh products.
And the big seafood counter at the back of the produce department! The store is set up the same as Armonk, with meats and the service butcher in the rest of the first aisle...
...and dairy lines the back of the store. Emphasis here, as with the other DeCicco & Sons, is on the perimeter, but there's also a complete grocery selection.
The grocery aisles, too, though, angle upscale. The chain is in part supplied by Krasdale Foods, but you won't find too many Krasdale storebrand items here.
One difference between this store and Armonk: beer is on the main floor here, running straight up the middle of the store.
And frozen foods are up next, under the second floor cafe area.
And of course, we open up to the massive cheese island in the back right corner of the store. I love the light fixtures here!
This is an incredibly well-designed department. It's an incredible store overall, to be sure. But of course, it's not a discount supermarket. DeCicco & Sons tends to be on the expensive side, but it's easy to tell why. It really is a gourmet market.
Prepared foods and the deli line the rest of the last aisle, with bakery in the front corner.
And the bakery directs us into the front-end, with customer service at the opposite end of the front. You can see the staircase below to the second-floor cafe, so you know where we're going next...
Like Armonk, this store has a large cafe on the second floor with a bar. It's gorgeous! There's nobody eating here simply because I was here around 10 in the morning -- not exactly a peak meal time.
And I'm not sure too many people are looking to go out for a beer at 10 in the morning, although I know there are plenty...
But the design of this area, too, is absolutely spectacular! The ceiling is high enough across the whole store that it's plenty spacious on both floors, but where there's no second floor, the ceiling doesn't feel too high.
And looking out over the supermarket's sales floor...
Gorgeous! How about those intense colors in the produce department?
A wonderful shot of the grocery aisles from high above!
I mean, come on! How can you not love this view?!
And looking at the back part of the store, where seafood, meat, and dairy are...
Again, what a view!
Here's a look over into the dairy and cheese corner in the back right corner.
And, of course, across the incredible deli. You really capture how large these specialty departments are in this view. And I love the wood paneling all down this wall!

That, folks, is all for Westchester County, and all for New York State... for now. Don't worry, I have more stores photographed farther up north that we'll see closer to when we see New England, and lots more in and around New York City to come back to much later. But for the time being... we're off to New England, starting in Connecticut next week!
