To the southeast of Worcester, route 146 connects Worcester to Providence, the next closest city. The highway is built along the Blackstone River Valley, and the river running through the middle also goes from Worcester to Providence. Along the river are a few small towns, which we'll be visiting as we head to the southeast of the city. Millbury is our first stop, about five miles from downtown Worcester. Grafton is just to the east, with Sutton, Northbridge, Uxbridge, Douglas, and Blackstone to the south. This area is all small towns, as we're surrounded by preserved land with Douglas State Forest and Purgatory Chasm in this area. Most of my coverage of this area was back in September of 2021, when I did an incredibly long bike ride (about 60 miles) from Worcester to northern Rhode Island and back -- although the very beginning and end of the trip was on the bus, admittedly. While I can't say the ride, continuously going into and out of the valley and then up and over the mountains where the three states come together, was easy, it certainly was beautiful. And hey, we get to see some supermarkets! We'll begin with our first stop in Millbury tomorrow.

Plus, don't miss all the special reports from today!
