Original Grocery Tenant: Park 'n Shop
Address: 2 Main St, Blackstone, MA
Opened: unknown
Closed: 2022
Later Tenants: vacant
Photographed: September 4, 2021No more Park 'n Shop for Blackstone! I don't know when this location opened, but the 22,500 square foot store was built around the late 1950s. It's in far southern Worcester County -- in fact, it's all of 400 feet from the Rhode Island border. The store closed in 2022 and is still vacant, although the owner of a nearby liquor store is looking to reopen it as a combination liquor/grocery store.I was disappointed to not be able to make it here before the store closed, but still good that we get a look at the building once Park 'n Shop closed!
Park 'n Shop is preparing a new store in Mendon, around six and a half miles north, but it's not clear if those plans are still progressing. I can't find a location in Mendon where a new supermarket would go. We've also seen Park 'n Shop locations in Auburn and Dudley, and a former store in Webster. The sign had been removed from the storefront when I visited, but observant readers will notice it was still on the premises...
...but let's take a look inside! Carpeting remained here, and we can see the bones of the decor still on the walls.
Here's a look at the entrance and exit on the front vestibule...
The Park 'n Shop lettering was being stored inside the vestibule!
And here's what I believe was the entrance...
And check out those big chunky Park 'n Shop letters! I love this.
The sign out by the street remained at the time of my 2021 visit, though...
And for comparison, this sign is 100 feet from Rhode Island. That's all for southeastern Worcester County, but now, we're actually headed into the city of Worcester! Come back on Monday to see where we're started.
