Photographed: January 28, 2020Welcome to the former home of Fortin's Market, a 20,000 square foot independent grocer right along the main business corridor of Greendale. The store opened around 1970 and actually made it all the way past 2000, if the city directories are correct. (By 2007, the store was subdivided into a Halloween Outlet and several smaller businesses.) Eventually, the Halloween Outlet moved to a smaller space in the building when Dollar Tree took the main space and then closed. But even with all the shuffling, a few Fortin's signs remain on the right side of the building...I assume the painted signs are original to the store's opening, and the lower sign is probably newer but still has been there for several decades. (As of my last time passing by this building in the spring of 2023, all these signs were still there.) Always fun to find relics like this left over on former supermarket buildings! From leftover relics to brand-new, let's tour a supermarket just north of here tomorrow!
