Wegmans
Opening: early 2025
Today's special report comes to us via contributor Alex K., who sends us pictures of Long Island's first Wegmans, set to open in early 2025. The new-build store replaces a row of other closed stores, including a Toys R Us and a Babies R Us.
The store will be over 100,000 square feet. Additional area Wegmans are planned for the Upper West Side of Manhattan and Connecticut.
The store looks to be in the typical Wegmans format, an example of which you can see here.
It'll be interesting to see what the prepared foods offerings look like here. During COVID, Wegmans cut back a lot of the prepared foods options because customers weren't doing self-service bars, nor were they eating in-store. From my observations, the various locations have levels of prepared foods offerings all over the place. Even if the actual items are the same, some stores clearly sell much more than others and so some are fresher than others.

I haven't been in any Wegmans that has anything more than the Asian Bar which is really too bad. Wegmans hot bars and salad bars used to be great. I thought the salad bar would eventually return but most stores have installed salad stations where employees package up individual salads for sale. No customization options as far as I know.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, I don't like those stations at all (although the kale salad at the sushi station is quite good). And you're right as far as I know, there's no way to get a custom-made salad.
