A few days ago, we checked out the former Price Chopper of Shrewsbury, and I mentioned that in 2010, the store moved just east to a new-build location. It's funny that this store is about 64,000 square feet, nearly identical in size to both the Shaw's and Stop & Shop in town. But this store is the farthest east of those three, and also the highest-volume according to Placer.ai.Photographed: October 23, 2021
This looks similar to the Webster Price Chopper on the outside (and East Stroudsburg, for that matter), but because Webster was built just a few years after this one, there's a different decor package on the inside.
So this store very closely resembles the East Stroudsburg location, among others.
Grand aisle is on the right side of the store, with the bagel/donut shop and Starbucks and a small cafe on the front wall. Prepared foods and bakery line the right side of the store, with cheese and deli in the back right corner. Meat and seafood line the rest of the back wall with pharmacy in an island in the first aisle. In this store, there's a wine shop behind the pharmacy; dairy/frozen are on the far left side with floral in the front left corner.
This store, at least judging by the availability of fresh/prepared foods, seems to do rather well. When we compare the amount of fresh food on this store's shelves to an example like the obviously low-volume Main & Cambridge location, it seems this store does quite well.
Produce looks great, too.
And again, the fully-stocked cheese island makes the store seem like it does a very good business.
Bakery is on the right-side wall with deli on the back wall. I'm a bit surprised by that, as I typically expect deli on the right side and bakery on the back wall, but I'm sure this isn't the only store to use that setup.
Maintenance, as we see, has been great here, too.
In the area I'm accustomed to seeing HABA behind the pharmacy island, this store has a liquor store.
And HABA is in the front part of these aisles next to the pharmacy counter.
Frozen foods are on the far left side of the store.
Although it's looking a little dated now, I do like this decor package. I like the bright colors and the consistency in text and graphics.
Frozen and dairy lining the last aisle.
And here, floral is in the front left corner.
And just to come full circle, here's a look at the entrance/exit area in the front right corner.
Tomorrow we're off just east of here to check out a large Indian supermarket!
