Stop & Shop
Opened: 2001
Closed: October 31, 2024
As we can see inside, the fixtures are all still there. Some other locations have seen their fixtures auctioned off. That may still happen here. But it seems odd that the space isn't available for lease -- by any online ads or on-site signage I can find -- and all I can find is an inactive online listing. UPDATE 11/18: The space is available from Ripco.
I doubt another supermarket would move into the space as it is, given its location and its dated interior. But as a couple of us speculated on the other post, it's possible Saker could be looking to move into the property and demolish this existing building for a newer, larger one. That could explain why the space isn't available. It's also possible the property owner just hasn't listed it yet.
Owner: Ahold Delhaize
Previous Tenants: Edwards (ca. late 1990s-2001)
Later Tenants: vacant
Cooperative: none
Location: 1049 US-1, Edison, NJ
We're back in Edison to check out the recently-closed route 1 Stop & Shop after its closure on Halloween. I stopped by shortly before it closed, and you can see that post here. The space is vacant and still fully intact inside, but as far as I can tell -- unlike other locations -- the space isn't currently being advertised for lease, which makes me wonder whether there's a new tenant set to move in that simply hasn't started clearing out the old space yet.Photographed: November 9, 2024

Here's a look at this weekend's other stores!
- Renovations progress at the Carlstadt Food Bazaar while the Piscataway location has yet to start
- City Supermarkets is almost done renovating their new location in Kenilworth
- Most closed Stop & Shop stores remain vacant, including a location in Edison (this post)
- An independent grocer near Paterson has completed a renovation
- Over in Passaic, the exterior of a SuperFresh is getting a major rebuild
