Super Supermarket
Opened: 2008 under current ownership
It's been a while since we've seen a Super Supermarket! The small chain has locations in Orange, Newark, Paterson, and Haledon. It looks like an unrelated, independent operator has additional locations in Elizabeth and West New York. Here in Haledon, the roughly 28,000 square foot store has recently completed a remodel. Check it out before the renovation with my 2020 photos here.Owner: Antonio Perez
Previous Tenants: Food Fair > Nicholas Markets Foodtown
Cooperative: Retail Grocers Group
Location: 408 Haledon Ave, Haledon, NJ

The remodel was mostly cosmetic, although some bigger things were updated, too. The lighting, for instance, was replaced in the whole store, and a small seating area was added to the deli/hot food area.
The new decor looks great, although the store still feels pretty old. Still, it's looking much better than it was.
The flooring has been removed, too, which was one of the things making the facility feel older. The fixtures here in the deli and hot foods department were replaced, and I love the decor here.
The addition of the seating area has reshuffled the first aisle a bit, with baked goods cases facing the grocery shelving. The bread cases used to face the deli. Regardless, these bread cases are new, but there's no in-store bakery.
Service meat and seafood counters are in the back-right corner.
These fixtures weren't updated, and neither was the tile backsplash which is still making this area look older. The new decor is a nice change, though.
The meat cases weren't replaced either, but painted and nicely fixed up with some nice new wall decor. The lighting facing the wall, though, isn't in great shape and has several bulbs burnt out.
The grocery aisles remain from before the renovation.
I think this is a good example of how an operator can relatively simply fix up an older store and make it look much more modern, without a whole lot of work. Polished concrete floor, paint on the ceiling and fixtures, new lighting, and new decor. Looking good!
Frozen cases in the last aisle are new, but the dairy cases are older. More great signage here. It's pleasant and easy to read, but not overbearing.
And the front-end is fixed up, too, with new decor and new lane markers, but I don't believe the actual registers were updated.
Glad to see a small independent store like this making investments! Don't miss this weekend's other posts, too...
