Remember how the Clinton Hannaford had the older decor package but was renovated after I visited? Well, here in Leominster, I actually visited the Lancaster Street Hannaford as it was getting its renovation to the latest decor package. This location is a little larger than Clinton, around 40,000 square feet. There's a larger and more modern location at the north end of town, which we'll see soon.Photographed: March 25, 2023
This Hannaford was previously a Victory Market, dating to the late 1980s, although it seems to have replaced an older store just next door that's been subdivided. Victory was acquired in 2004 by Hannaford chainwide, and it looks like Hannaford renovated the store shortly thereafter (and then, of course, again in 2023, which we see here). Oh, and by the way, check out the snow falling in my exterior pictures!
I really like this new decor package -- but of course, we can't exactly see it here since it hadn't been installed yet at the time of my visit. We saw a simple version of it in North Brookfield, which is about 25 miles southwest of here, and we'll see the real deal when we get to the Merriam Avenue location across town. Here's a look before the renovation.
The produce department is on the right side, with deli/prepared foods in the back-right corner, then seafood and meat on the rest of the back wall. Frozen and dairy are on the left side, with bakery in the front left corner. There's a pharmacy in an island in the first aisle.
HABA is in these first few aisles facing the pharmacy.
If I'm not mistaken, these category markers are left over from the previous decor package, but they seem to be remaining in the stores that are renovated.
And as we can see, the store was very much in progress when I visited.
The decor was going in, but only in a few departments on the left side.
The lighting and decor looks great here, but it's much better in the full version of the decor package.
It looks like some of the freezer cases have been replaced, possibly replacing older coffin cases.
Dairy cases on the outside of the last aisle, which look older but with new doors.
And a look at the bakery and the front-end...
Someday, maybe I can get back to this store to see the renovation finished, but I can't say I spend a lot of time in Leominster!
Tomorrow, we'll check out a very small independent a couple blocks behind this store!
As far as those gooseneck signs are concerned, those red ones are in fact the ones used in the decor it has now. The old ones had dark blue text on a pale yellow background, in the same Highway Gothic typeface. Like the aisle markers themselves, those old gooseneck ones were ancillary replacements for Festival-era signage that Hannaford has commonly replaced over the past 10 to 15 years, regardless of what decor package the store already has/had.
