Shaw's Opened: unknown Owner:  Albertsons Companies Previous Tenants:  unknown Cooperative:  none Location:  155 Great Rd, Stow, MA Photographed:  May 11, 2023 Stow, Massachusetts isn't the more famous town by that name in New England -- Stowe, Vermont is a famous ski resort town 150 miles north -- and believe it or not, both actually have Shaw's! The Stowe, Vermont store is a former Grand Union of just 13,000 square feet, but the one here in Stow, Massachusetts is much larger at around 52,000 square feet. I don't know the history too well, but the building dates back to the mid-1970s. It appears that the current supermarket space was originally a department store, and a smaller space now an Asian restaurant was the original supermarket. It looks like the supermarket moved over around 2000, but I don't know for how much of that time it was a Shaw's. It's been a little while since we've seen a Market Basket, about three weeks , which feels like a crime given our location right here in Middlesex County, Market Basket's home county. But we're back with another tour, this one of the Maynard Market Basket! If you didn't look at the opening year in the header, when do you think this store opened? 1970? Last year? Much to my surprise, this store is only a couple years old, having opened in 2020. The 75,000 square foot supermarket was constructed on a large property previously home to the Metrowest Technology Campus, now developed into a mall and housing. Assabet Co-Op Market Opened: 2023 Owner:  cooperatively owned Previous Tenants:  unknown Cooperative:  none Location:  86 Powder Mill Rd, Maynard, MA Photographed:  September 16, 2023 Just up the street from the recently-closed Stop & Shop in southern Acton is this new small natural foods co-op, opened in 2023 in a space of just 6000 square feet. It wouldn't surprise me if the 20,000 square foot rectangle making up most of Victory Plaza was originally a supermarket, but I don't know for sure that it was. We enter the store in the front-right corner, with produce in that corner and dairy on the rest of the right-side wall. There's a cafe in the back of the store, along with seating both indoors and outdoors along the Assabet River, which runs along the back of the building.
