Shaw's
Opened: unknown
The grand aisle is on the left side of the store, with produce in the front and seafood and deli at the back. Meat lines the back wall with dairy and frozen on the right side. Bakery is in the front-right corner. It doesn't look like there is or ever was a pharmacy here.
It looks like there's also a sushi counter here. Shaw's tends (or at least did at the time this store was built) to put sushi, when stores have it, with seafood instead of deli and prepared foods. Here, seafood and deli are right next to each other, with sushi in the middle.
Here's a look across the back wall. Notice the newer flooring and wall colors that match this decor package, but the signage from this decor package.
Service butcher is up next on the back wall, with packaged meats beyond it. Albertsons Companies stores have recently combined the service meat and seafood counters, but I don't know if this one did in the renovation.
Flooring from the previous decor package here. I don't know if it was replaced in the renovation.
I must say... I don't love the way this store looks. I'm sure it was fixed up a bit when it was remodeled, but I don't think the signage works with this color scheme nor this flooring.
There's a Stop & Shop and a non-supercenter Walmart a mile west, an ALDI to the north, and an independent gourmet grocer called Foodlove just east.
HABA department with light blue aisle markers...
There's a bakery in the front-right corner in front of the HABA department, and it doesn't look like there was ever a pharmacy here. (Typically, the pharmacy would be between the bakery and the front-end, and as we can see below, there's nothing between the bakery and the front-end.)

Another store sent to me by Lucas, who also photographed today's other tour of A Market in Newport! This Shaw's is about 65,000 square feet, and although I'm not exactly sure when the store opened, the building goes as far back as the 1950s. In the early- to mid-1990s, though, the current supermarket space was constructed (expanded?) including the facade that's currently on the building.
I believe this corner, with seasonal and customer service, is in the front of the grand aisle, but I'm not sure. Moving into the supermarket...
Inside, the store received the Premium Fresh & Healthy 3.0 renovation in the late Supervalu days -- probably between around 2012 and 2016, give or take a few years on either side -- and, more recently, got new flooring and fixtures (along with a paint job but not new decor) shortly before Lucas visited in 2021. Here's an idea of what the store looked like inside previously. In the summer of 2024, the Middletown Shaw's got new decor and held a grand reopening. I haven't seen any interior pictures, though. The grand aisle is on the left side of the store, with produce in the front and seafood and deli at the back. Meat lines the back wall with dairy and frozen on the right side. Bakery is in the front-right corner. It doesn't look like there is or ever was a pharmacy here.

And that wraps up our look at the Shaw's of Middletown, RI!
A note on posting: as I mentioned before, because Lucas gave me these pictures after I'd already started scheduling posts, I had to make some changes -- so that's why we've been doubling up. But that's all for now, and tomorrow and Friday have only one store each. But this weekend, there's a lot of news to see with updates and special reports. Stay tuned!
