America's Food Basket
Opened: 2021Time for another look at the supermarket in the Campello section of Brockton! Another, you might ask? Yes, there are two posts today -- one with pictures from 2019, when this store was a Bravo, and this one with pictures from 2022 after it had been switched to America's Food Basket. Make sure you read about the Bravo before moving onto this AFB!
Reminders of the store's past are still around, including the obvious remnants of the Bravo logo on this sign out by the street. One note: I don't know if ownership changed when the store changed from Bravo to AFB. Sometimes owners simply choose to switch their affiliation for one reason or another; other times one owner might want to sell to another who has a different preferred cooperative.
Upon entering, you can tell the store looks very similar to how it did when it was a Bravo, but it's cleaned up a bit. There's a fresh coat of paint on the walls, a few fixtures were moved around, and the store overall felt brighter and better organized. Still, it's on the older side and the work was not extensive at all.
The freezer cases Bravo had here in the first aisle have been removed, it seems moved over to the last aisle for the frozen foods department there. Dairy, cold cuts, and packaged meats now line the first aisle. The reused Roche Brothers aisle markers remain, but at the rate that America's Food Basket renovates their stores, I have to wonder for how much longer. (You can see an example of a before-and-after at a particularly nice location in Brooklyn here.)
The meat department hasn't changed much, either, but benefits from the new paint and some international flags hung over the service counter.
America's Food Basket sells Essential Everyday and Wild Harvest items from UNFI.
You can see the store is extremely well-kept, notably better so than when it was a Bravo, in the pristine grocery aisles.
Incidentally, for those unfamiliar, AFB is a cooperative based in New York of around 70 independent supermarkets. They have an impressive geographic spread, with locations in the Boston area, Rhode Island and southeastern Mass, central Mass, Connecticut, the New York metro area, eastern Pennsylvania, the Atlanta area, and several cities in Florida.
Check out the old-school heat vents on the ceiling! Even though the store is older, though, it's maintained very well and has been kept up nicely since AFB took over.
Newly reshuffled freezer cases in the last aisle, along with a secondhand Roche Brothers price check sign and a secondhand Stop & Shop desserts sign.
And a new deli and hot food counter has been added in the last aisle.
I like the look of the changes here at AFB, because even though there was minimal work done since Bravo left, the store feels better and more taken care of. As I mentioned in the Bravo post, AFB opened a second location in Brockton in early 2022, which we'll be seeing soon.

In the meantime, check out Bravo here if you still haven't, and tomorrow, we're headed north along Main Street for another international supermarket!
