It's time to check out the fully remodeled Bronxville ACME! I posted this store in progress a few months ago, and the renovation is now done as ACME celebrates their grand reopening. It's looking great!
Also of note: ACME has a new decor package. It was first used for their Walnut Street store in Philadelphia, and on a handful of other stores since then, but it seems they've fully switched to this decor package now. All of their latest renovations have used it, including the store in Mayfair which got new decor in the last few weeks of its remodel. That store recently held a grand reopening, along with stores at Granite Run in Media, PA and in Bala Cynwyd, PA. Both of those two stores had the Quality Built renovation before getting this decor package, so this one is definitely here to stay.
And this decor package definitely has a bit more personality than Quality Built, which could be very bland. It's not perfect -- the colors are still very neutral, which gives the overall look a little bit of a bland quality -- but it's fun, sleek, and modern.
Plus, it's clear Albertsons is serious about these remodels. With the remodels I've seen lately at ACME and Shaw's, they come with all new fixtures across basically the entire perimeter, new flooring in much of the store, and sometimes new lighting.
Here, the majority of the perimeter fixtures were replaced, along with most of the flooring. It looks good and really new, not just like a repainted version of what was here before. Here's the deli before. You can see how extensive the work was.
A few new rows of refrigerators have been added in front of the deli. I don't know what was here previously. These now have cheeses and prepared foods.
All new produce fixtures and a new Farm to Market sign. Looking good! The only other change I would love to have seen here would be a fresh coat of paint on the ceiling. The various ages of ceiling tiles are really noticeable here, and with the extent of the rest of the work, it's surprising that something that simple wasn't fixed.
This store is still quite small, meaning that the service departments remain limited in size. But meat/seafood has definitely been nicely redone, with new fixtures, and something else...
...this is the only ACME I've ever been in that has in-store dry aged beef. I've seen it in some other supermarkets, but as far as I know it's a first for ACME here. I assume this won't become a standard feature in all the stores, since it's a high-end specialty offering, but it's still a nice, unusual feature.
Looking across the back wall of the store.
The many signs on the walls discussing ACME's history and showing off the old logos were a bit hard to photograph given the angles and general cramped nature of this location, but they're basically the same as what we saw in University City.
All new freezer cases, and it looks like the flooring was redone on the perimeter but not in the aisles.
And they even added signage for frozen food! So often supermarkets leave this department out because it's not on a perimeter wall a lot of the time, but it's never lost on me when stores don't forget about it.
The grocery shelving definitely wasn't replaced, though, and it's in the grocery aisles that you can feel it's an older store. But still, it's very well-maintained, as you can see.
There's a lot new in this ACME -- this is of course new decor, and new aisle markers to go along with it, but the red and white category signage on the refrigerators is relatively new to the chain, too, and it only started appearing in stores around last fall.
Dairy is in the last aisle in brand-new cases. And while the decor here is very cool for dairy -- again, see University City for an equivalent -- it's almost impossible to see or read because of how low the ceiling is and how cramped the space is in general.
The Frosted Mug has come to Bronxville! ACME's branding for the beer department has been added to this store. The front corner that confused me the last time has now been rearranged so that customer service is up on the front wall, and there are registers on this side. I believe they simply shifted all of the registers over, closer to this side of the store, to make way for expanded floral and deli/bakery departments on the other side.
Above you can also see where the new flooring meets the older flooring. And I'm not totally sure whether the registers themselves have been replaced, but these rounded refrigerators definitely are. I love them -- they have a lot more selection than the typical soda cases at the end, with grab-and-go items along with snacks in them alongside the drinks. Perfect for a small store in the center of town, like this one is.
And even though the so-called Quality Built decor isn't here, there's still a reference to the House that Quality Built! This sign is hung on the front end beyond the registers -- a nice nod to ACME's history.
I've got to say, I was really happy with this ACME remodel. There were a few unexpected surprises, and the decor looks great in this location. I'm sure if it makes its way to more stores, it'll get boring to me eventually, but for now, it still feels fun and new. And it's always great to see investments in these stores, especially the acquired A&P locations. They feel more like ACMEs than rebannered A&Ps these days! There's a lot more coming this weekend, so check it all out here...

  1. I think this may be the most fantastic decor package ACME has ever had. It FEELS very ACME and gives such nice nods to the chain's history. I just wish they would have kept the Corner Deli branding. It made such a triumphant return during the Quality Built era, I can't for the life of me understand why they dropped it.

Not sure how safe it is to assume this but with everything I am seeing, ACME has entered a new era of success. Some serious cash is being spent on these new remodels, some of which have been completely unnecessary. (See Granite Run) Those fancy bakery and deli cases do not come cheap! Add to this that ACME is actually lowering prices with zero fan fair. (Just one example... the veggie burgers I buy are 60 cents cheaper at ACME than ShopRite, and often are on sale for $1.60 less than ShopRite.) I know...just one example but for the items I buy regularly, ACME is actually beating ShopRite on price. And it feels like it's been forever since they closed a store! Oh and last week I discovered I had accrued enough points for $20 worth of FREE groceries. No joke. Couldn't even believe it was true until I saw the total at the register. I bought 20 bucks worth of stuff and wound up with a balance of $1.55. Wow. Top that ShopRong!

    1. Good to see you online! I just got back from photographing the Granite Run location and WOW. That was a store that was not in need of an update, but they really knocked it out of the park. This package takes everything that was great about Quality Built and builds on it with better materials, colors, and MORE Acme heritage. Looking back on Quality Built, that was such an important decor package, but you can tell they tried to get as much character as they could while spending as little as possible. It worked but I'm glad they were able to iterate on that here.

I thought the same thing regarding the Corner Deli nomenclature, but I'm sure that they wanted to use a generic term so this package can be used without modification across the Albertsons family.

Now the question is what should this package be named? I'm thinking something along the lines of Quality Built Plus since it displays that phrase prominently above the checkouts.

    2. Nice to hear about the Granite Run store! I have photographed Haddonfield, which looks absolutely amazing now, and will be creating a post for Market Report. Will this decor be used for other Albertsons banners? I'm not so sure. It seems each banner has a relatively customized package these days. I would like to think they dropped Corner Deli for Delicatessen as that term fits the vibe with the vintage flair of the decor. Maybe they should have gone with "Corner Delicatessen"! Regardless, new package does have WOW to it. I like Quality Built Plus! You're absolultey right about the importance of the original version, even dating back to when ACME was using cheap stick-on vinyl letters. They absolutely had to right idea but were clearly struggling with budgets for remodels. So nice to see how things have changed!

    3. Wait, did Haddonfield receive this decor? I tend to only visit Voorhees and Westmont, but if they did, I'll have to stop in and check it out. It's only a few minutes away!
